Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cooper DeJean got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at Round 2, Pick 24.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Vidal to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a long-term starter on the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Circle this one: Cooper DeJean at the 56th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the 87th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brenden Rice in pick No. 95 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Sataoa Laumea at No. 132 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Grayson Murphy in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
M.J. Devonshire at Round 6, Pick 41 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No drama and no debate, Edefuan Ulofoshio went about where he belonged in pick 233. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kimani Vidal a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
