Call it larceny. Jake Golday sat on the board until the 112th overall pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. It is not that Golday is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Banks pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Sonny Styles at par in pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
In pick No. 29 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Zion Young in the 40th overall pick, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They did well to land Zakee Wheatley in the 92nd pick, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A surprising call. With offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 112 on Jake Golday, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Kaytron Allen at No. 152 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ephesians Prysock at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeff Caldwell in Round 5, Pick 40 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaiah Nwokobia a notch or two before his time. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
