The Edgerrin Cooper pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 34 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
So much rides on Edgerrin Cooper that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jonathon Brooks in pick No. 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zak Zinter at slot 87 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Edefuan Ulofoshio, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Roger Rosengarten at the 174th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Jeremy Flax in the 212th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Jeremy James in the 245th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
