The Micah Morris selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 76 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Hill Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
They will answer for taking cornerback early while interior defensive lineman and quarterback went begging.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay Anthony Hill Jr. at slot 63 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Treydan Stukes at pick 95, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback to take Davison Igbinosun, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Michael Trigg slipping to pick No. 131 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Reggie Virgil in the 171st overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Dalton Johnson in Round 6, Pick 10; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Toriano Pride Jr. at the 198th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They barely believed it either: Keagen Trost still on the board at pick No. 202. A need, and now a little less of one.
Adam Randall at pick 212 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Micah Morris this early at the Round 7 slot. The roster fit checks out.
