The Commanders treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 3, Pick 15 on David Bailey a full 64 spots early.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thornton Jr.. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in the 29th overall pick, where Nick Emmanwori graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Mason Taylor at No. 61 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
David Bailey in slot 79 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Smael Mondon Jr. still on the board at pick No. 148. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Cobee Bryant all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Dont'e Thornton Jr. in pick 238 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hunter Wohler. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
