They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: DeMonte Capehart, 150 picks early at Round 7, Pick 22.
The McGlothern steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Patrick Paul enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to the 213th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Devin Leary at slot 231, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in No. 242 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
