The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for DeMonte Capehart, 161 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
Getting Johnson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The Teagan Quitoriano pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Payton Wilson slid further than he should have, and slot 59 is lovely value for the linebacker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Patrick Paul was still sitting there in pick No. 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Khyree Jackson in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Braelon Allen higher than the 124th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Jalen McMillan all the way to pick 128, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylan Ford well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dillon Johnson in No. 213 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
DeMonte Capehart at Round 7, Pick 11 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Kedon Slovis in pick 242 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trevin Wallace in the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
