Somebody in the 109th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Chris Brazzell II, the No. 29 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a workhorse for the backfield at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Monroe Freeling at the 40th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dillon Thieneman at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Chris Brazzell II in the 109th overall pick, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Domani Jackson at No. 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Ephesians Prysock at pick 169, and the board is aghast. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Zane Durant in pick No. 176 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Thaddeus Dixon at pick 210 when waiting would have done the job. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
