When a board-topper like Hollin Pierce slides to pick 148, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Taylor pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The Derrick Henry pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 29 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Value said wait; Mason Taylor in slot 61 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking Hollin Pierce in No. 148 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cobee Bryant in pick No. 207 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on LaJohntay Wester in the 238th pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Hunter Wohler at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
