The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched Cornelius Johnson slide 37 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kamari Lassiter at the 37th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in pick 69, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Braelon Allen in the 105th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zak Zinter at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jarrian Jones at slot 140 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Jefferson at No. 181, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at pick No. 225 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Darius Muasau went about where he belonged in the 253rd pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
