Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent the Round 6 slot on Kenny Logan Jr., a name most had 38 spots down the list.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The McCaffrey value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 27 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Khyree Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on DeWayne Carter, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luke McCaffrey at the Round 5 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kenny Logan Jr. in the 213th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Rasheen Ali went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 2. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Eyabi Okie-Anoma in slot 231, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Matthew Jones at No. 242 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
