Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kyle Monangai got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at slot 250.
Reaching for Taylor left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Burch at Round 3, Pick 15 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Logan Brown in pick 148 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let KeAndre Lambert-Smith come to them and pounced at the 207th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hunter Wohler at slot 238 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Kyle Monangai at pick No. 250 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
