The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
Landing Turner that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Christian Darrisaw pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Warren at the 24th pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at pick 38. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jayden Higgins at pick No. 69 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quinshon Judkins slid further than he should have, and No. 77 is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Donovan Jackson at slot 97 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Andrew Mukuba in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Shemar Turner in the 145th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They did well to land Cam Horsley in No. 222, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ja'Corey Brooks at the 240th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
