The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chargers watched Jaylan Ford slide 20 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Amarius Mims at No. 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Ruke Orhorhoro went about where he belonged in pick No. 69. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in the 105th overall pick, with Brenden Rice worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen at the 110th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Jaylin Simpson in Round 5, Pick 4, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tip Reiman at pick 181 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaylan Ford at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nothing to complain about; Josh Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
