The Patriots did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Nohl Williams fell into slot 240.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jalon Walker at pick No. 38 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nick Emmanwori at the 69th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Donovan Jackson. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ozzy Trapilo in No. 105 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Savion Williams at pick 145 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Oronde Gadsden II in Round 7, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Donovan Edwards at slot 222 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 240 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
