There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Getting Carson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will need Ulofoshio to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Joe Alt in slot 5, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 5 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 69 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Caelen Carson at the 105th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Will Shipley in the 110th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 140 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tip Reiman at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 225 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They took LaDarius Henderson at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
