Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while KeAndre Lambert-Smith, the No. 190 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a rangy last line of defense, and a steal at that.
Fair-plus on Isaiah Bond, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Ezeiruaku went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Hollin Pierce all the way to slot 148, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ollie Gordon II at the 207th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay LaJohntay Wester at No. 250 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
