Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Commanders were there to profit. Jordan Hancock, the No. 199 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 238th pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The cost of the Burch reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a downhill hitter at safety, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
A wild overpay on Jordan Burch in pick 61, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mason Taylor at the 79th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Hollin Pierce still on the board at No. 148. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ollie Gordon II at slot 207 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jordan Hancock in the 238th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A reach on Kaden Prather in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
