Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Jaylen Harrell went at Round 6, Pick 5, a good 41 picks before the board was ready. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

Getting Mims where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 9
In pick 15 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 24
Value with a capital V on Terrion Arnold in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
Amarius Mims at the 46th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 54
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 5: Malachi Corley for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
Blake Corum in slot 104 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
Johnny Wilson at pick No. 139 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Jaylen Harrell · DE-EDGE · rank 221
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in Round 6, Pick 5 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 218
Good price on Michael Barrett in slot 225, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 255
No drama and no debate, Ryan Watts went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
