Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Eagles spent the 87th overall pick on Ben Sinnott, a name the board had a full 56 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
That Paul pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Wilson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 27th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in No. 58, with Calen Bullock worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 60, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Payton Wilson, a linebacker they were not short of.
Ben Sinnott at the 87th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Patrick Paul in the 97th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Blake Corum was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier running back value. The roster fit checks out.
Max Melton at pick 126 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Sataoa Laumea, who had no business lasting to No. 137. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Will Shipley here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Jordan Travis in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braelon Allen at pick No. 178 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Andrew Raym at par in the 188th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Roger Rosengarten still on the board at pick No. 203. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jared Wiley at the 229th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Isaiah Neyor at pick 243 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steele Chambers slid further than he should have, and No. 245 is lovely value for the linebacker. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Matthew Jones in slot 256. The roster fit checks out.
