Whoever sat across the table from the Chargers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
Bullock at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The veteran additions, Garrett Bradbury chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The cost of the Amegadjie reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope. The biggest hole, addressed.
Leonard Taylor III at pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Kiran Amegadjie in slot 47; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Calen Bullock was the payoff at the 69th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 108 with a little surplus value in Matt Goncalves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Cam Hart, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 6. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Cowing at the 179th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trey Knox in pick No. 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 6, with Sheridan Jones worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steele Chambers slipping to pick No. 230 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
