Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Kalel Mullings, the No. 110 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 255th overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The cost of the Brown reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter.
Donovan Jackson at pick 64 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Logan Brown at No. 96 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Savion Williams at slot 106 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Kalel Mullings at Round 7, Pick 39 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
