You build a draft on nights like this. Kamal Hadden had no business being available in the 158th overall pick, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Frazier to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 21 they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Zach Frazier at No. 53 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Kamal Hadden still on the board at the 158th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Curtis Jacobs at pick 186 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It fills a real need, too.
JD Bertrand in Round 6, Pick 24 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Matthew Jones went about where he belonged in slot 242. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
