The Chiefs bet big and early on Theo Johnson, 27 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Pritchett where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kiran Amegadjie in No. 64 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Theo Johnson this early at the 95th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Mason McCormick in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Nehemiah Pritchett come to them and pounced at slot 159. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Myles Cole at pick 173, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Rasheen Ali went about where he belonged in No. 252. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
