The Chiefs went off the board in a big way for Trevin Wallace, 105 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in the 64th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in slot 95, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trevin Wallace in the 131st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson at Round 5, Pick 22 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jase McClellan in pick No. 172 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Trajan Jeffcoat at the 252nd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
