Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Germie Bernard got past him. The Steelers do not have to explain a thing at No. 85.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Every board in the league had Allar lower, and that gap is the story. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Need was not the driver here.
Dillon Thieneman in pick No. 48 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Lee Hunter in slot 64, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a wide receiver like Germie Bernard reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Will Lee III at pick 135 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Drew Allar in the 147th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Kendrick Law all the way to Round 6, Pick 35, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Miles Kitselman in the 230th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Aiden Fisher come to them and pounced at the 237th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
