Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Dolphins came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Davis. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 23 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Payton Wilson at the 56th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Cooper Beebe in slot 59, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at pick No. 86 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 87th pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Tykee Smith at No. 158 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Davis still on the board at Round 5, Pick 38. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Khristian Boyd at the 184th pick is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joe Milton III in slot 198 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in pick No. 241: Trevin Wallace for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
