Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. The Mahogany pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette in pick 36 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Cooper Beebe enough to skip the value, taking him in the 37th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A quiet steal in pick No. 53: T'Vondre Sweat for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Christian Mahogany in Round 4, Pick 14, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Christian Jones at slot 116, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Mohamed Kamara at the 125th pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in No. 133; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in slot 176, with Dwight McGlothern worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
