The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chiefs were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Smith reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette in the Round 2 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Morgan is a better player than the 46th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 90th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid up for Jalen McMillan at No. 91 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Maason Smith at Round 3, Pick 32 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Dallin Holker at pick 159 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Fabien Lovett in slot 173, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Jalen Sundell in Round 7, Pick 32, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
