The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jacob Rodriguez, the No. 51 name on the board, in pick 92. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Wright pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
In the 20th overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 92 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Elijah Sarratt was still sitting there in the 112th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Charles Demmings at pick 152, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: DeMonte Capehart at slot 177 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dae'Quan Wright a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
