Boards are made to be trusted, and the Packers shredded theirs for C.J. Hanson. He came off 39 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The Harden value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Packers indulged a want in Wilson while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in the 34th pick: Byron Murphy II for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kool-Aid McKinstry at Round 2, Pick 9. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 62, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 63rd overall pick on Payton Wilson with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
They jumped the gun on Cole Bishop, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mike Sainristil at slot 91 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beaux Limmer. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Trevor Keegan at the 128th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Jarrian Jones at slot 130 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Mason McCormick here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Caedan Wallace in pick 200, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Garret Greenfield in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 215 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
JD Bertrand in pick No. 218 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A conviction pick on Trevin Wallace at the 219th pick that the board grades a round light. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
C.J. Hanson at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 245 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Tyler Owens at par in Round 7, Pick 35, which is nothing to complain about. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
