You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Max Llewellyn at pick No. 112, roughly 44 spots before his name belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 20 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Circle this one: Zakee Wheatley at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Bryce Lance in No. 111 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Max Llewellyn at slot 112, and the board is aghast. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Charles Demmings in Round 5, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tanner Koziol slid further than he should have, and pick No. 177 is lovely value for the tight end. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
