For all the boxes ticked, the Giants skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
McCaffrey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 15 they get a premier pass rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in the 39th pick, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Ja'Tavion Sanders, who had no business lasting to pick 43. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kris Jenkins at No. 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Blake Fisher at par in pick No. 70, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 6 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaylin Simpson in the Round 5 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
