There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Dillon Johnson a full 25 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Lassiter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Kamari Lassiter slipping to pick No. 41 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 57th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Corley at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Dillon Johnson at slot 91, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Will Shipley at the 125th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Mustapha in the 135th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
