The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending No. 236 on Fernando Carmona a full 41 spots early. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Christen Miller at the 59th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Daylen Everette in No. 88, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Ted Hurst in Round 4, Pick 20 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Davison Igbinosun at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in pick 160, where Charles Demmings graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Kage Casey went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sawyer Robertson at pick No. 201 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fernando Carmona in No. 236 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Josh Cuevas come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 39. A need, and now a little less of one.
