Dallas Cowboys

Larceny in the Round 5 slot lands the Cowboys a B, Rivers and all.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Chandler Rivers, the No. 97 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 141. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The Elliott reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
They did well to land Sonny Styles in the Round 1 slot, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
In the 28th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 47
A tidy bit of business in No. 59, where D'Angelo Ponds graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Kyle Louis · LB · rank 84
Value with a capital V on Kyle Louis in slot 92, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 131
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Caden Curry well ahead of where he belonged. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.15 · Pick 115 · Sam Roush · TE · rank 92
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Sam Roush in the 115th pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Chandler Rivers · CB · rank 97
The board fumbled Chandler Rivers all the way to pick 141, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.12 · Pick 152 · Zxavian Harris · DT · rank 155
Zxavian Harris in pick No. 152 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.37 · Pick 177 · Zane Durant · DT · rank 179
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zane Durant. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Keyshaun Elliott · LB · rank 219
Keyshaun Elliott at slot 180 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.25 · Pick 206 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 198
The board had Cole Payton higher than Round 6, Pick 25, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 190
Steal is underselling it; Ephesians Prysock at pick 211 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.2 · Pick 218 · Patrick Payton · DE-EDGE · rank 248
A big swing on Patrick Payton at No. 218, well ahead of any board in the building. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R7.34 · Pick 250 · Terion Stewart · RB · rank 240
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Terion Stewart in pick No. 250. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
