You build a draft on nights like this. Myles Harden had no business being available in No. 252, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Nugent lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the 33rd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in pick No. 70, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 14 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Khyree Jackson at slot 83, and it noticed. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Austin Booker slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen McMillan at No. 105 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A big swing on Mohamed Kamara at pick 114, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Tommy Eichenberg in Round 5, Pick 23, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in the 166th overall pick, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Drake Nugent at slot 173, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Myles Harden was still sitting there in pick No. 252, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
