There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Packers never got to the one that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Getting Everette where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The cost of the Barrett reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Jake Slaughter in pick 61 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
Jacob Rodriguez in slot 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Daylen Everette at the 93rd pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Julian Neal at No. 120 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Charles Demmings in Round 5, Pick 20. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Jeff Caldwell higher than the 201st overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Nick Barrett at pick No. 236, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Josh Cuevas come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
