Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the 180th overall pick on Keyshaun Elliott, a name the board had a full 39 spots lower.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Golday. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot.
In the 20th overall pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Golday at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Treydan Stukes, who had no business lasting to slot 112. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Louis Moore at the 152nd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Justin Jefferson in pick No. 177 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Keyshaun Elliott at pick 180, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nick Barrett at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
