Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins did enough to get by: C+.

The Joshua Braun selection is the head-turner. The Dolphins reached 70 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Landing Caldwell that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jeremiyah Love at pick 11. A need, and now a little less of one.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Max Iheanachor · OT · rank 46
Max Iheanachor at pick No. 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Keionte Scott · CB · rank 60
Nice patience on Keionte Scott, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Ted Hurst · WR · rank 89
Ted Hurst in No. 90 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Devin Moore · CB · rank 92
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Devin Moore, a cornerback that was not the priority.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 108
A quiet steal in the 118th overall pick: Nicholas Singleton for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Justin Joly · TE · rank 122
Justin Joly at No. 128 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Eli Raridon · TE · rank 135
No edge and no loss on Eli Raridon in Round 4, Pick 30; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 156
Drew Allar at slot 151 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.17 · Pick 157 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 161
They took Demond Claiborne at par in the 157th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 173 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 174
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.24 · Pick 205 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 187
They will replay Jeff Caldwell at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · Logan Taylor · OG · rank 261
A wild overpay on Logan Taylor in pick 211, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Joshua Braun · OG · rank 282
They reached a country mile for Joshua Braun at slot 212, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 251
Bryce Foster in No. 227 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.13 · Pick 229 · Adam Randall · RB · rank 274
Adam Randall at Round 7, Pick 13 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Isaiah Jatta · OT · rank 244
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Jatta at pick No. 238, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.30 · Pick 246 · Enrique Cruz Jr. · OT · rank 291
Value said wait; Enrique Cruz Jr. in the 246th pick says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Micah Morris · OG · rank 323
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Micah Morris. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 292
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Riley Mahlman well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
