The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Trey Benson slide 39 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Reaching for Proctor left real value on the table behind him. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Byron Murphy II is a better player than Round 1, Pick 25 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cooper Beebe in the 41st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Circle this one: Kamren Kinchens at the 88th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kingsley Suamataia reach pick 91 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Trey Benson in slot 126 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braiden McGregor at No. 169 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Drake Nugent in pick No. 202 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Josh Proctor well ahead of where he belonged. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
