They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Ty Simpson is the Dolphins' quarterback, full stop. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jones. Every board in the league had Halton lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Kamari Ramsey at the 68th pick, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Romello Height slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 11 is lovely value for the edge rusher. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Skyler Bell went about where he belonged in pick 87. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A real head-scratcher, Gracen Halton in No. 90 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Deion Burks in the 94th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Logan Jones at pick No. 130 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
