The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to Fernando Mendoza, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Proctor reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
They paid up for Blake Miller at pick No. 36 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Rodriguez at pick 67 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 2 with a little surplus value in Malik Muhammad. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Kaleb Proctor in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Malik Benson at No. 134 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
