You build a draft on nights like this. Sam Hecht had no business being available in the 121st pick, and the Steelers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Hecht pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still on the board. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 21 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Tiernan. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Garrett Nussmeier in Round 3, Pick 12 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Kyle Louis at the 85th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Sam Hecht while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Steal is underselling it; Michael Trigg at pick No. 135 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
