Priorities are a choice, and the Dolphins made a strange one, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE in slot 100 with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots crying out for the pick instead. No fireworks, but a solid B.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Solomon reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Suamataia.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Kingsley Suamataia come to them and pounced at the 66th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
T'Vondre Sweat in Round 3, Pick 3 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Junior Colson at slot 71, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 96 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A want over a need in No. 100: Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots keeps waiting.
They read the board right and Nathan Thomas was the payoff at the 186th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Josh Proctor higher than the 195th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Braiden McGregor at pick 199 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
BJ Mayes slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
