Somebody took the Texans to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They are betting Wilson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In short, a weekend the front office will want to forget in a hurry.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 28 they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 1 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Johnny Wilson in slot 53 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 28; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trey Benson in the 88th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Malachi Corley in the 89th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Max Melton in No. 121, a step better than break-even. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in No. 127, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
