It is the swing that defines the weekend: Vincent Anthony Jr. in pick 168, a good 74 spots before the room expected him. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Payne. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on CJ Allen in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
Caden Curry at pick 79 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Mason Reiger at slot 111, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Oscar Delp in the 149th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for George Gumbs Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Vincent Anthony Jr. at the 168th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zane Durant slid further than he should have, and the 195th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jeremiah Wright at Round 6, Pick 34 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, VJ Payne in the 220th pick, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Harrison Wallace III is a better player than pick No. 229 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
