You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Browns did exactly that with Nick Barrett in pick 206.
That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
In pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid up for Caleb Tiernan at slot 39 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jake Slaughter at the 55th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Emmanuel McNeil-Warren all the way to No. 70, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Eli Stowers at pick No. 86 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 7; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
CJ Daniels at pick 146 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Kaytron Allen at par in pick No. 149, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Nick Barrett in the 206th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Andre Fuller in No. 248 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
