The Bears spent real capital to be 50 picks early on Anthony Lucas, and the board is going to hold them to it. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Olaivavega Ioane in slot 25 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid up for Malachi Lawrence at the 57th pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Lucas in pick 60, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaishawn Barham at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Max Llewellyn at Round 4, Pick 29, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Jack Pyburn in the 239th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Eli Heidenreich at par in pick 241, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
