Start where it matters. The Browns took Ty Simpson to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Bell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That Caldwell pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Ty Simpson at Round 1, Pick 6 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chris Bell at the 39th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A big swing on Markel Bell at slot 70, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Jalen Farmer in pick No. 107 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kaytron Allen at the 146th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Rayshaun Benny at No. 149, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Jeff Caldwell was the payoff at pick 206. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Bryce Foster at par in pick 248, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
